Chaos Before Gea - Chronos
For people who don’t know the album "Chronos", or even the band Chaos Before Gea, "Chronos" is the new album of Chaos Before Gea which was released 25th of May this year. The band Chaos Before Gea, which is currently located in Malaga (Spain) consist of Ismael Pérez (vocals), David Arroyo (drums), Damián Schmitt (bass), Adrián López and Hernan Jensen (guitars)
The first album the band made was released in the summer of 2015 and was called "Kharon". This album was produced and released by Blood Fire Death. Then three years later they released their second album "Chronos" which is promoted by Blood Fire Death again and distributed by The Braves Records.
The album "Chronos" last 37 minutes and has 8 tracks. In the songs you can hear influences of Mastodon, Annihilator, Gojira and also The Dillinger Escape Plan throughout the complete album. For example you can hear this in 'Rebirth' which in my opinion sounds a little bit like Annihilator. In 'From The Cradle To The Grave' you can hear a bit of Divine Heresy without the drums of Tim Young, for me a true masterpiece, if you listen closely.
I was pleasantly surprised because up till now I didn’t know this band. This masterpiece opened my ears because it sounds super technical with a pleasant clean voice but also with raw grunts from Ismael, which I did not suspected at first. I’ve listened to several older numbers like: 'The Pieces Of Truth', 'Erebo' and 'Moaning In Agony'. You can hear that they’ve grown since then because this album tells more of a story in my opinion than the last album.
'Chronos' (the title song) starts somewhat raw with clean singing mixed with raw grunting of Ismael. This makes it all very pleasant to listen to. Then you have 'From The Cradle To The Grave' which starts technically strong and simultaneously somewhat slow and then the power kicks in which is for me my favourite part of the whole song.
After listening to this album a few times I must admit it has grown on me. Now after a few months of listening to Phill Campbell And The Basterd Sons, Black Stone Cherry and Memorium, this album has become my new favourite for in my car. Why in my car you may ask, well because here I can play the songs as loud as I want without any neighbours complaining.
All in all this album takes you on a journey through a spiritual world by the way they play but also with the lyrics. And it sounds fukking awesome!!! I would give this album 4 out of 5 stars. Why not 5? because there is always room for improvement. But certainly a new band to follow with interest.
