Bringers Of Disease - Gospel Of Pestilence

Hailing from the U.S., Black Metal band Bringers Of Disease bring forth to light their first EP just three years after their formation. At first, 'Gospel Of Pestilence' may not seem like much, as many veteran Black Metal listeners will consider the high buzzing atmosphere due to shredding guitars and tremolo picking amongst high pitched shrieking vocals which are almost as high as the guitars just another copycat of bands like Setherial or Dark Funeral. However, Bringers Of Disease also incorporate lower, more demonic snarls as well on other tracks like "Your Prayers Remain Unheard," which are much more tolerable to listen to and add more 'evil' qualities to the music overall. There is also more of a focus on rhythm with a bit of a slower pace, though not as slow as some bands like recent Marduk. Track after track Bringers Of Disease keep things as brutal as possible in the 90s Black Metal spirit with little room for keyboard or acoustic ambiance. Out of all the tracks, "Our Final Reward In Hell" stands as the most well rounded of them all, not only in musical structure which switches between tremolo picking madness to more of a depressed, raging but more repressed tone. The drums are especially audible here as they beat away with a hollow sound that is often obscured on the more blistering tracks. Despite there only being four tracks, 'Gospel Of Pestilence' includes a few epics like "A Plague To End All Plagues" to round out the album past twenty minutes, which makes it a worthy listen compared to most EPs which can average up to about fifteen if one is lucky. While this may not be the most innovative black metal out there, it still has all the right elements to make it bone chilling, even if it is a bit hard of hearing at times.
