Bradford - You’re Doing It Wrong

This is an instrumental album from Denver in the US, typical of those classic rock instrumental albums I listened to as a teen, usually those by the likes of Satriani and Vai, certainly not as shredding as Friedman or Becker. With albums like this, I find them frustrating, but as Bradford says, it’s singing without singing. The tempo is pretty much the same throughout, quite soft and melodic with a slight reluctance to move away from that stance. This for me this points to the drum loops and drum programming, as there’s limitation clearly.

There’s a few hip hop record “scratches” included, but that’s all that really stands out. Well, that and the song ‘Mom’s Place’ which sound like a 50’s rock ‘n’ roll track slowed down. The album is a great musical journey, but it repeats itself pretty much for the entirety. If you are a fan of instrumentals, then you’ll enjoy this and Bradford is another musician clearly at one with his instrument displaying meticulous attention to detail of both the arrangements and the recordings. For me, it’s a touch safe compared to some zany work conducted by other multi-instrumentalists out there.
