As We Die - The Right Choices

As We Die are an Italian metalcore/ deathcore that inject the standard formula of both genres with a bit of extra melody. Much of the music off their new debut EP, The Right Choices, follows the style of bands like Suicide Silence and Carnifex. The chugging guitars, occasional breakdowns, and gutteral screams are all there. However, As We Die also incorporates clean vocals that are similar to Linkin Park in their own whiny sense. Overall, the band is much better with them because it gives them a distinct sound advantage over about ten other deathcore bands that could named.

In fact, the EP only has one 'pure' deathcore track, that being the short introductory song "It's Time To Free Your Soul." The rest of the album is a mix of crunching deathcore, death metal vocal led verses, and the cleaner vocals carrying the chorus. Tracks like "My Fire Will Burn Again" are strictly aggressive, especially with the guitars, and the drums are a blur as they beat away in the background. Other tracks like "My New Star" are a bit slower and offers more melodic passages. The clean vocals are often layered with the harsh ones, creating an interesting contrast with each word. Even the music as more 'hard rock' oriented, giving them a slight chance of radio play on some of the mainstream radios in the U.S. and Europe where their new record label, SG Records, would release the EP.

Overall, fans will most likely be pleased by this young output. The talent is there, and the potential for a diverse, unique album is there too. As We Die just has to hang in there and show the world they know how to make good deathcore/ metalcore.
