Serement - Abhorrent Invocations
The Greeks Serement bring us their debut album “Abhorrent Invocations”, after an EP and a couple of singles, through the French label Dolorem Records and released on May 17th. Formed in 2022 in Athens by members of Blessed By Perversion Vaggelis Nanos Bass, Manolis Kouelo Guitars, Andreas Moschopoulos Vocals and Vasilis Nano son drums replaced by Vagelis Vasilopoulos drummer from Sickening Horror (yes, where the great George Kollias played) for this album, they wanted to give it another approach to the death metal that they practiced in their previous band, approaching darker and more aggressive terrain, if possible.
Serement's death metal style could be said to fall within blackened death metal, with violent and slasher riffs, as well as a noteworthy use of technique, unbridled drums and an impressive voice. To get an idea of what Serement sounds like, it's like mixing Behemoth, Hate Eternal, Morbid Angel, Suffocation, Deicide... and also a touch of old school, I think this is how you could understand the brutal musical offering of these Greeks, at the same time with a touch of melody. In each of the songs we find the intensity of blackened death metal, with incredible bursts of blast beats and that dark atmosphere typical of this genre, if you pay attention, in addition to the aggressive and violent part you will be able to appreciate technical, melodic parts, the great bass work, with impressive enveloping phrasing. And although it is true that they do not invent anything, it is true that they have a personal touch. Of the nine cuts that make up this album, four of them were part of the previous works, closing this gem with the instrumental “Κατάβαση Ψυχών” (descent of the souls), calm and at the same time disturbing, with a melody with a black metal air, and here we once again appreciate the work of the bass perfectly.
The mixing and mastering of “Abhorrent Invocations” was handled by Georgios Christoforidis at Ignite Music Studio, with artwork courtesy of Misanthropic-Art.
In short, a perfect album, it includes everything a good death metal fan can look for in its darkest side. You should already have it in your hands.
