Veuliah analizes with devotion
Veuliah is a band with eight long years of life. The band already went by several changes is in the line-up, or in your own music. Good things happened and also bad things, that everything is a common thing the to happen any band. But, the main is the band to be prepared for the to react all those situations, I see that Veuliah is overcoming (in fact I think it overcame) all these problems. Which the swinging that you does of those eight years of life of Veuliah?
Márcio - The those eight year-old swinging is extremely positive, a growing development and I continue always joining maturity in search of the professionalism. The stages until arriving to the larger objective - recording of the cd - they were conquered with a lot of sacrifice in a period of time that went decisive factor to the accomplishment of this dream, because the band was in a ripening apprenticeship that needed to put all accumulated experience outside in almost a decade of existence. To know to change in the right moment an acquired virtue and all those changes that happened was helped to set up that it breaks head that today is concluded and solid, we are highly conscious of our importance in the local scenery. For those years, all of the good things like you said, they were absorbed and associated to our work, already the bad things were always analyzed and many molded times our reality, but they were never discarded.
You chose for well to execute a Melodic Death Metal. That differentiated you of the local bands. Was this the reason for you to do this style or would some other cause exist?
Fábio: One of the reasons was, yes, to differ. But, also, we opted for the style that Veuliah does today due to the freedom in the hour of composing. We liked to vary plenty and we used the influence of many other slopes of the metal to complement our sound. Another thing that defines us a lot is the junction of the brutality with the melody (typical in Melodic Death Metal). We liked this mixture among bases and vocal aggressive with keyboards and harmonious duets.
They were two gave and a single, and after a long time such expected debut album was thrown. Was long plenty, does it agree?
Márcio - It was the enough time to fit in the pieces of the gear. We can say that the band was quite careful. The recording came in the right moment; all the details were previously discussed and analyzed in the interval of time between the single and such expected cd. It never went by the head in beginning the recording of the cd without having a structure of consolidated band, we always went contrary to contracted musicians or things of that nature, I leave very clear that are not against the bands that use of that process. The wait was satisfactory in the end; we got to compose an only idea, an objective in common, always respecting the position of each component. The time was our ally in the socket of decisions and the patience was one more joined virtue our maturation.
Like you they are planning the popularization of the new album Deep Visions Of Unreality? Does the band already have many dates marked for shows or even tours?
Ricardo - The popularization in the zines, magazines began to be done one month before the cd to leave, and I can tell him/her that we already obtained positive results with her. That part of shows is already being gotten right. We have some events inside Bahia confirmed already, and we are closing more some in the Northeastern states, that should be done until September. We have some proposed and contacts for more shows for the south of the country, but we are still in success process. Until the end of the year I believe that we will already have gone by a good part of the country, then, after a solid popularization of our sound for the public from Brazil, we could already think about something more gone back to the exterior, that it is one of our goals for that cd.
Does taking advantage to talk about the new work Deep Visions Of Unreality, which the opinion of the band in relation to the final result of the disk? Were you satisfied with the production?
Ricardo - It was exactly what wanted: An album with a lot of weight, aggressiveness and melody! With every certainty, we are quite satisfied, and I can tell that, in my opinion, the final result was above the expected. Everything that one day wanted for people, resulted in ’Deep Visions of unreality’. They were months preparing that cd, actually, almost one year, and the final result was quite gratifying, still more after all of the problems that we crossed (and we overcame) during the recording of the same. The result, so much of the graphic part, as of the resonant, made to see us that all our effort and dedication in that project, that had such a long and exhausting process, they gave good fruits. It is a pride, and above all, an accomplishment for us of Veuliah, after all those years of fight, that release.
Maniac Records always threw great bands, and it would not be different with Veuliah that is part of the group of the best bands of Bahia. How do you evaluate the whole work of Maniac Records with Veuliah? Would Veuliah have some dissatisfaction type with Maniac Records?
Ricardo - Any dissatisfaction. We didn't choose the Maniac records by chance. We had other proposed of recording, but we already knew how the work of Maniac was, we already had opportunity to see their distribution tactics and popularization before in practice, and with certainty always gave plenty certain. Besides everything, the transparency among recording X band is immense, and the trust that we have in the same, larger still. The popularization is perfectly being made; so much it is that, for that I know, they just remain less than a room of the first circulation of the cd that shows as everything is being made in a correct way. As always phallus, the important is you to trust totally in the company in that you are making partnership, and that is happening with us.
In relation to distribution out of Brazil, did the band already receive some type of proposal of other labels? And if it received, which could mention?
Ricardo - We already received yes, of two recording foreigners. One is German that has distribution in more than five European countries, like Switzerland, France, etc., and another of Japan, that distributes, besides in the own country, in their adjacencies. The name I prefer to maintain in secret, it is better not to give certainty of anything before any officialization that comes to happen. But we hoped that partnership is rendered, so that the name of Veuliah comes to firm in the exterior, still helping more to a tour to happen for the European and Asian countries, as had already said previously, it is one of the goals of the band for that cd that tour.
Well, and inside of Brazil e would have some recording interested party in the band? Would the possibility of Veuliah exist to leave Maniac Records?
Fábio: Before we close with Maniac Records, we had received some proposed of other recording ones, but we opted for Maniac Records for several reasons (proximity, safety, seriousness, compromising, friendship etc). But we didn't discard the possibility of a migration for other recording one. Own João Carlos (owner of the stamp) already told us that we would have to look for what is better for the band, and if a recording one offers a great growth opportunity, we go catch her, with certainty.
After the release of the album Deep Visions Of Unreality, are you having a good receptivity of the specialized media? Among you criticize published them exists some what the band has not agreed or even what doesn't deserve the new disk?
Ricardo - The critics are being great, quite profitable, exciting and productive. It would be very frustrating, a work done with so much effort, dedication and precision, not to obtain critics of good taste, and happily, up to now, that is happening, we hoped it continues like this. On the comments, I prefer not to detach an especially, same because we played in a band that now has a cd in the square, we are as a glass roof, objective of any one, therefore we don't have to care if that or that comment comes or not to be different from what we thought. I can tell him/her that all the critics were great, and although some small comment might have existed inside of some review that we have not agreed, are happy with all the critics that we are reading.
I remember a show that I attended in October of 2004, where the band played with it Tortures him Squad in Salvador. The posture of the band in that time still resembled a little shy, besides the sonority of the band didn't also leave me very satisfied. However, in the last show June eighteen I was surprised, the band changed plenty; it is more aggressive, more solid. Would that be the result of an arduous work?
Ricardo - Veuliah, in my opinion, was never a shy band. All of the musicians are experienced, with long years of highway, having already gone by local bands of weight. We always had a same posture in stage. I think critics are not made as easily as seems. It doesn't only depend on the vitality of the band, but also yes of who is doing her. The sound of Veuliah didn't change in anything from that time, same because, most of the cd had already been recorded, therefore in resonant terms it is the same.
The difference that I see is that in that opportunity we opened the show, we played only half hour, and the last was the release of the cd of the band, we were main attraction, the night was gone back to Veuliah, in spite of the two great bands that were also coming, and we played an hour and a half. That means a lot of thing to mine to see. We only made two shows after mentioned by you, therefore it could not be had such abrupt changes in the band. And I can tell you also that after that show we received many praises regarding our participation, even of people that said they have if turning assumed fans of Veuliah, an opinion complements different from the one that was affirmed in that interview. I work arduous it didn't really lack, but as I spoke, a critic doesn't only depend on the band, but of the whole context in that she is involved, but in any way, we were happy of having pleased of that last time.
I really agree with you. Several criteria exist for an evaluation, however opinion is personal. I am not and I never went an assiduous fan of Melodic Death Metal, but Veuliah called me a lot of the attention. The work is very good, not only in the resonant part as in the letters. Maybe this better production has done with that I saw the band in a different way. Don't you think this work very well fact is fundamental for the band to be more valued?
Fábio: Certainly. We were always this aware and for that that we battled a lot so that our debut if it rendered in the best possible way. We went perfectionist and we analyzed everything with a lot of calm and devotion. The attention in the minima details of the production cost us a lot in terms of time and stress, but the result was compensatory. We cannot forget that without the professionals' help like Gustavo Sazes - our graphic artist (www.artemovimento.net) and Jerônimo Cravo - musical producer and sound engineer (Vértice Estúdio) - DVoU would not go out with graphic and resonant quality. Now we are feeling, really, that the band is being more valued - mainly for the producing of show, that don't treat us more as just one more “band”.
Observing the lyrical context of Deep Visions Of Unreality, I noticed that they are quite subjective, it is as a mixture of several flowed that result in a single philosophy, however the listener can have several types of reflections, different interpretations. How was the whole process of composition of this disc?
Fábio - Exactly! The letters are, really, a coalition of several concepts on the aegis of a philosophical theory. The subjective form is interesting, because it makes possible the diversity of ideas and personal results. I like this, and a lot of times add interpretative gaps so that the message expands in an idiosyncratic way. As for the composition process, as much of the vocal ones as of the instrumental part, it was not schematized and nor had an exact period. The melodies and to you leave lyrical they went appearing and worked with the time. The process was arduous, because we wanted something to go complex without sounding confused. We spent a long time discussing and cutting the music, but it was pleased because we liked enough of the final result.
Fábio, you make an excellent work in Veuliah. The vocal lines used by you are quite versatile, hour you use a vocal one torn formerly you use vocal lyrical. Like you it does work with all this versatility?
Fábio - Thank you very much for the praises. The versatility came in a natural way, I think due to my influences and experiences. I learn a lot with the masters varied styles, from vocalists of bands of Progressive Rock of the seventies to the of bands of Black extreme Metal. Before entering for Veuliah, I sang in a band that navigated among the Power and the Heavy metal, making a ’cleaner’ line. In Veuliah, I learned how to exercise the vocal ones torn and guttural (what is constantly trying to get better). This everything facilitated a lot in the hour of to create and to execute the changes of vocal guttural and torn for the cleanest.
Other fact that I could not stop commenting on is the excellent layer of Deep Visions Of Unreality, not only the layer, but the whole graphic work is wonderful. Who was the responsible for the work of art?
Ricardo - It was really very good, of face we knew that it would be a positive point to the more than would get attention. The responsible for the insert is it already renowned carioca designer Gustavo Sazes (www.artemovimento.net), that already made works for bands as Malefactor, Imago Mortis, Tribuzy, Avec Tristesse, Fates Prophecy, etc. THE guy is plenty of professional, highly creative and with an immense critical sense! He got to perfectly capture the idea of the layer of the single Black Spirit and made the continuation in a divine way. All that want have an art of high level must seek, because with certainty they won't be sorry! It is only to access the site and to remove their conclusions; the guy is very good of truth!!!
Talking about an annoying subject, unhappily still prejudice exists against the bands of the same northeast that it is very subtle now. We know that the Northeastern bands don't owe anything for any other group of other areas. Which the opinion of the band on this subject?
Fábio: With every certainty, the bands of the northeast don't owe anything for any other group of other areas. But, the prejudice with the Northeastern bands of metal is a sad reality. In the own reviews of magazines of the southeast, we always noticed a certain distinction with the bands of here - what irritates us deeply, it is clear. I think, with the time, the competence of the bands will speak by itself and it will shut up of who them (and that is already happening slowly).
Changing the subject, in relation to tours as the band is programming the shows? Does already have some thing of concrete?
Fábio: We are, in the moment, in the beginning of our tour of popularization of the disk for Brazil. We already played in some cities and we are articulating the dates of the shows for most distant States. Brazil is a very big country, and then we have to be organized in a way that we can play in the largest number of cities with economy of time and energy. Of concrete, we have a show in Aracajú, besides other cities (Campina Grande, Christmas and Macaio), that only lacks confirm the dates. But we are with many contacts for the country and, soon, many shows will appear.
Which the future plans of Veuliah? And the public that still didn't witness shows, for what can they wait?
Fábio: Firstly, to publish plenty our debut. We grated a lot for us to render DVoU, now we want to play the possible maximum. We have to ’put the foot in the highway’ and to turn Brazil showing our work. We are also, parallel, beginning the compositions of our next album, because one of our goals is to be always overcoming us and, with certainty, the second CD will still be better than the first - they await!
As for the shows, we tried to pass for the spectator all energy and the feeling deposited in the compositions. Constantly we evaluated our performance for us to perfect her and, like this, to stiller involve the public in our concerts. At the end of each presentation we are whole ended physically, but satisfied spiritually, because we always have a good answer of the presents. Who liked of the CD, certainly it will like the show.
