Malevolent Creation and if you are too slow you gotta go

interview with Malevolent Creation

One would think that after more than ten years of cranking out the most blistering of death metal, MALEVOLENT CREATION would be willing to rest on their laurels, having nothing left to prove. But for the band, every show and every new album is another chance to show the world the true definition of malevolence. With unmatched speed, skill, songwriting and sheer force, MALEVOLENT CREATION is the Mike Tyson of death metal, coming up swinging after every knockdown and biting on the ears of anyone too deaf to listen on their own. They've endured censorship, massive lineup changes, in-fighting, and attacks by religious groups, mass media, government and right wing thugs. Through it all, MALEVOLENT CREATION has stood tall and strong - never compromising one note nor surrender one inch of ground. If anything, they've become more and more aggressive and caustic with each new album.

The Will To Kill, the band's eighth studio album, proves this point in spades. The album's ferocity and savagery stands up and surpasses those who have come to try and usurp Malevolent Creation's throne. Guitarist Phil Fasciana sits triumphantly atop it, surrounded by his knights-at-arms - Kyle Symons on vocals, with Rob Barrett once again sharing lead guitar duties, and Gordon Sims on Bass. Newest member, drummer Ariel Alvarado replaces Justin DiPinto (who actually recorded on The Will To Kill). A line-up stronger and more determined than ever that can look down with honor from their perch atop the pile of corpses of those who have tried and failed.

The road that has led the band to where they are today seems a long and winding one. The origin of MALEVOLENT CREATION can be traced back to their formation 1987 in Buffalo, NY. It was here that the band made and gave away 100 copies of their first demo tape - taking their first sure-footed step into the death metal underground. Their 1988 move to Florida set the stage for the recording of their second demo. A limited pressing of 1000 copies helped to establish them as legitimate contenders in the field. By the time MALEVOLENT CREATION recorded their third demo, a deal was secured with Roadrunner Records and in 1991, the release of their monumental first full length album, The Ten Commandments.

Over the years MALEVOLENT CREATION has had a succession of members who have left, some who returned, and some who left once again. Key members have included original vocalist Brett Hoffman, Jason Blachowicz [bass/vocals] and Dave Cultross [drums], all no longer with the band. Rob Barrett has been a part of the Malevolent war machine for most of it's history. Fasciana makes no excuses for the continual membership changes, stating, ’If you're too slow, you've got to go.’ Personal and personnel problems have never stood in the way of this thundering war machine. Those were injured in battle and left behind must be content with the knowledge that they were part of this behemoth - even if for a short time.

Through it all, one thing has been consistent with MALEVOLENT CREATION. Album after album, year after year, challenge after challenge, their unwavering fortitude, strength and determination have continued to see the band deliver unmerciful and unrelenting extreme death metal of the highest caliber. The Will To Kill continues the unforgiving barrage of this now legendary band's savage bombardment. And there is no surrender in sight.

interview with Phil on 4-12-02

Please give us a short introduction of yourself?
My name is Phil Fasciana and I am the founding murderer of the band Malevolent Creation.

Also give a short introduction and background of the newlies?
Newst members of the band are Kyle Symons on vokills (Hate Plow) and Ariel Alvarado (x-Draconis and Coffin Texts). Both kick ass and have made us heavier.

How does it feel to be alive with MC after more than ten years?
It's actually been 15 years and it has been one wild ride. Lots of good and bad times but it has been fun so far.

Did you reach the goals with MC of what you thought back those days?
Yes definately, we never even thought we would release evon one album and we have just released our 8th full length studio album ’The Will To Kill’.

What can MC achieve in the future? Still have some goals?
We still have new territories to invade for our new album and hopefully pick up some new fans as well.

Will MC still play the same style or gonna experiment with violins or so?
No violins or keyboards, that is for gay bands.

Why did you start MC? Some bands that gave you inspiration?
We were big fans of Slayer, Dark Angel, Kreator and most thrash bands in 198y when we formed MC.

Do you still have contacts with other bands that started that period?
Yes, we are good friends with Cannibal Corpse, Monstrosity, Immolation and most Florida bands.

Is the scene changed in the 10 years? Positive or negative?
It has had it's ups and downs just like anything else, but at this time the scene seems to really be picking up lately and that is a good thing for everyone.

Why did you moved to Florida? Better scene? Better wether?
Better women and better weather compared to cold Buffalo,NY.

Your last name sounds Italian? Still doing something with that roots in the USA?
Yes I am Italian and have a very big crazy Italian family that is currently corrupting the United States.

You say that if you are too slow you gotta go. What if you are too slow yourself?
Time to put a bullet in my head!!!!!

Do you think that The Will To Kill is the best MC album? Why not or yes?
It is my favorite at this moment, but I stand behind all our releases. We have never gotten weak only stronger with each album.

Do you play the old recordings at home or are they sealed at the wall?
I don't listen to our albums to often, after writing and playing them songs so much before we record them, there is no need to listen to them anymore. They are just sitting in my cd collection with the rest of my metal cd's.

What are the pleasures in life? Don't be afraid of censorship!
I like beautiful women (redheads preferably), playing guitar and drinking with my friends and an occasional game of golf usually helps me clear my mind.

Why is the USA so hypocrite about soft drugs? And why tolerate arms?
Because the US is gay, everything here is retarded.

Are you involved in politics? Do you vote? Send money candidates?
I'm not into politics and iI never vote, I simply don't care!!!!!

How serious is Hateplow? And why do you play in that band?
Not to serious we just get really drunk and play the fastest grindcore we can when we have time for it.

Do you have other activities in the musicindustry?
I run a record label called Arctic Music Group with my friend and attorney Scott Hecker.

How big is your part in dealing with design of the site, covers, shirts etc?
We just tell them what to do sometimes, but other than that it is the artists and creators who make it all happen for us.

So who is the best looking guy in the band? Does he get the most of the groupies?
We are all so good looking I can't really give you a honest answer. We should all be super models!!!!

Promote the new album with any words you like?
New album ’The Will To Kill’ is out now so go out and steal yourself a copy!!!!!

Last rites?
Bring On The Whores !!!!!!
