Incendiant - Incendiant review by Jesse A Lambertson exclusively for BRUTALISM.com This Salt Lake City, Utah, US band has just released their first record on JordanRiver Ent.. The effort is heavy heavy heavy. The first track plucked out the hinges of my ears with “Night of a Thousand Knives.” And if one knows history, the “Night of the Long Knives” (although perhaps an unintentional historical reference) remains one of the violent events in contemporary history. Plus, the band name itself, Incendiant, is a word that speaks to fire and arson (even if the spelling is not quite “incinerate”). The heaviness (I guess death-core is the closest generalization I could give it) does not abate. It continues right through “Collapse of the Light” with what surely is two singers, or maybe one singer overdubbing a slightly different voice, along with the low growls. This is a solid no-frills metal band that does not mess around. They play with intention and do not show-off much. There are a couple moments when one of the guitar players leave the monolithic power sound and play singly, but for the most part the CD is full of brutality from the land of the Mormons. It will get lots of playing time for people who tend to focus on death metal more seriously. Enjoy it. It is good.
