Gastrick Burst - Demo D'estomac Written by Kolton. Perhaps I am becoming to grow too fond for death\grind. Or could it be that possibly this upcoming French band Gastrick Burst has caught my attention? You would quickly understand why I have grown so fond of this brilliant and promising release. When overlooking the album artwork and song titles you'll find that Gastrick Burst is obviously a humorous death\grind band. The album art actually has various pictures of different cartoon characters. I'm not sure if they are all cartoon characters, but I am quite sure that a few of them are. There is Shake from Aqua Teen Hungerforce on this artwork. He seems to be in an evil and demonic form though as if he wants to tear the uterus out of a young woman. The song titles are genius and humorous, though they speak quite sufficiently of this albums ingenious. Nevertheless, this CD seems to be very clearly divvied into 2 separate parts. First off you have 11 titled tracks that make up for the 2004 demo. The second part of this CD you get another 6 tracks of punishing brutal death\grind that make up for the 2003 demo. So all in all, you have 2 demos greatly compiled to form one big demo that has the length of a full length album. The first 11 tracks of this album are the more recently recorded tracks in 2004. The sound seems to be very clear on this part of the demo. Every instrument is heard very clearly and sufficiently. You get pounded by the sick duo-vocals, at one point you hear brutal guttural unrelenting vocals then immediately it changes into some screaming that more than less defines why this album is death\grind. Then again you get another vocal change which seems to be more gurgly and possibly harmonized vocals adding a better touch to this album. The riffing techniques seem to be mastered to their own expertise providing you with a nice solid sound that has plenty of groove with a bit of technical riffs that seems to be usual in death\grind. I can't say enough about the riffage of this album because it's really catchy with the slammy death metal grooves and all the fast tempo and fret changes sometimes you can even hear a somewhat thrashy grindcore sound that is found on most Razorback Records releases. Though don't get this album mixed up with another one of those Razorback Records band because this is NOT from Razorback it's from an underground label called Dead Circus Recs. Anyway, I seem to have rambled off topic. As for the drumming it is very good and makes this album especially brutal. You get various drum patterns that full of great rhythmic genius. You are pounded with mid-paced drumming, then pulverized with a sick blast beat. All in all this part of the album seems to be the real ear catcher for most fans. The last 6 songs are off of the 2003 demo which has a whole different production than the first 11 tracks of this album. This production seems to offer a more stifled sound with a big crunch. Seems to me like this is maybe rehearsal recording, or even live? I'm not sure it could possibly be typical raw demo recording, either way this is favorably my favorite side of the CD for the simple fact that it has a raw raunchy recording style. All of the songs are the same as the first sides just recorded in a later time so there is really no big difference except for the raw raunchy recording. This album is a great album to add to your collection of death\grind. Skullfucked Productions has a lot to offer Gastrick Burst is one of many underground death\grind bands that Dead Circus Recs has to offer.
