Dark Prodigy released "Smashing The Face Of Oblivion" in late October. (check the site for some mp3. http://www.darkprodigy.com) I think they will grow to be a great band. This is not the last thing we heard of them. interview with Midge on 13-01-2005 Please give us a short introduction of yourself? My name is Midge Geluk, I was born in 1987, I play the guitar for about 5 years now. In Dark Prodigy I play the guitars and vocals. I also play the bass guitar when needed on recordings. When did you start with "DARK PRODIGY" ? In September 2003. I wanted to form a band but I needed someone who was just as serious as me with music. Menno started drumming in that same month and he is a very motivated and serious person. He is very into metal so he knows what metal drums should sound like. So although he couldn't even play the drums at that time I asked him if he was interested in forming the band. He said yes. Why did you take "DARK PRODIGY" as your band name? I saw the word 'prodigy' in a book and I thought is was a sort of powerful word. So I kept it in mind, maybe for a song title of something in the future. When I told this to Menno he thought 'Dark Prodigy' would be a good band name. So we agreed to name the band Dark Prodigy, it is also easy to remember. The style you play is black/death related? Yes. It is a mixture of death metal and black metal. Sometimes the two styles are combined into one song, but I also write songs that are just black metal or just death metal. We also try to add our own elements into the songs we write. So we aren't limited to those two styles. The first thing I noticed was that you guy's are two mans band. Is the band becoming bigger in the future? We will work with session members because we want to do gigs every now and then, but the core of the band will always be just Menno and me. In that way you have total control over your own music, the things you want to do and the things you think are good or bad. We already have a session guitarist named Kristiaan van der Gaag who is doing great at rehearsals. In the very near future we think we will have a bass player as well and so the line-up will be completed. But like I said, they are session members, so they don't participate in the writing process of the songs and they don't make important decisions. Do you have some goal for the future?(a new album, etc, etc) Yes, in the next 2 years we want to write songs which we must be totally satisfied with and record a very professional MCD or album (depends on how many songs we have at that time and if we find them good enough). Menno's drumming skills will be way better by that time. He only drummed for 8 months at the time that we recorded our first demo so the drum parts on that demo are quite basic. That will change in the future, the drum parts will become more interesting, faster, more intense and heavier. So our main goal is to make a product of really high and professional quality to make a good impression with a record we can really be proud of. That record is planned somewhere in 2006. It will be a expansive investment but we both think it's worth it and we want to go for it. What do you think of BRUTALISM? It is very nice to see a metal-zine / metal website which is not only trying to get the big names on their site. BRUTALISM is interested in all kinds of metal bands in all the stages of their career. They give beginning bands a chance to reach out to the metal-heads. Last rites? Thanks for the interest so far and you will hear from us in the future. website Dark Prodigy email Dark Prodigy BACK |
