KILL-TOWN DEATH FEST is a new Danish D.I.Y. death metal festival that seeks to promote underground death metal bands. It will be the first of its kind, at least as far as we know...
The festival will be a 3-day event taking place from 16th-18th of September 2010 at the alternative venue, OVERDREVET/ DÖDSMASKINEN in Copenhagen’s Northwest quarter. The festival will present 21 Scandinavian and International acts, metal dj´s, indoor and outdoor bars selling quality organic and regular beer from Danish microbreweries at reasonable prices, together with events, food stalls, a merchandise area, horror movie screenings, scrap metal art installations and outdoor facilities. Our primary focus is on the Scandinavian underground death metal scene, but we’ll also be bringing in a few treats from other parts of Europe, not to mention the rest of the world!
The fest is a celebration of the current underground death metal scene and the active bands and people involved. Our goal is to create a festival that puts the focus on the music and the bands, not on money and prestige. We want to make it possible for underground death metal bands (primarily from Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland, but also from the rest of Europe and the world) to reach a broader audience beyond their national borders. By doing so we hope to create an international exchange amongst non-commercial underground death metal scenes.
We don't have any headliners on this festival, but if we should accentuate a few names, we are proud to present the first European show ever of ANATOMIA from Japan. ANATOMIA is comprised of the backbone of the legendary TRANSGRESSOR and play slow heavy doomdeathmetal (www.myspace.com/anatomia). On top of that Gothenburgs newcommers MIASMAL will play their long awaited debutconcert at Kill-Town Death Fest. MIASMAL is playing melodic oldschool swedish deathmetal and both their demotape and their demo 12” out on the belgian underground label DETEST records were sold out in no time (www.myspace.com/miasmalband).
We are also proud to present much acclaimed and acknowleged greek DEAD CONGREGATION, who can be seen as one of the main proponents of the new generation of deathmetal, that is picking up on and reinventing the 90´ies golden era. We are also presenting from the occult turkish underground BURIAL INVOCATION, who as DEAD CONGREGATION, have picked up a great deal of their sound and inspiration from legendary INCANTATION. Worth noticing is that we have 5 finnish bands on the programme:
KRYPTS, SWALLOWED, ASCENDED, VORUM and STENCH OF DECAY.
We see all these bands as exponents of a new tendency within Scandinavian deathmetal, that pulls deathmetal in a more raw, heavy and melodic direction, well rooted in the Scandinavian oldschool tradition and with the heart in the underground scenes.
Also worth noticing is norweigian OBLITERATION, whose very acclaimed second full length album, Necropsalms from 2009, brought them to Mary Land Death Fest and soon Hole in the Sky festival in Bergen as support for AUTOPSY (www.myspace.com/obliterationnorway).
Last but not least we wanna accentuate two of the local names; first of legendary danish CORPUS MORTALE that has played uncompromising brutal deathmetal since 1993 and amongst others supported NILE, KRISIUN and GRAVE on their European tour in 2009 (www.myspace.com/corpusmortale). Second we are presenting new upcoming UNDERGANG, who is a rare contribution to the danish metalscene with their unique raging doomdeathmetal style. Their debut album “Indhentet af døden” from 2010 is long gone from english ME SACO UN OJO records on vinyl format and coming soon on CD format by spanish label XTREEM MUSIC. The festival is based on D.I.Y. ethics, meaning that the festival is 100% non-commercial, seeking to be an alternative to the corporate music business and commercial festivals. All the work in the proces of organising and during the actual fest is on a volunteer basis, so neither we the organisers, nor the bands playing the fest, are making a profit. That is also why we don’t intend to have headliners; all the bands will get the same treatment. All money raised will go to covering festival costs such as gear, travel, food and accommodation for the bands and if there will be a profit it will go into creating a new festival next year. The structure of the festival organisation is based on participatory democracy, so that all volunteers can have an influence on the shaping of the festival.
Our overall goal is to put the focus and attention on non-commercial music and culture and to give the audience a different festival experience. We hope to make this an annual event with lots of participants, and to give them an extraordinary experience.
The festival will cost 300 dkr (40 euros) for all three days. As part of the entry price, the first 500 paying guests will receive a KILL-TOWN DEATH FEST 2010 compilation tape with a song from all the bands playing the fest. We have started the pre-sale of 3-day tickets from our website so that people can ensure their participation in one of this year’s greatest celebrations of underground death metal. During the fest it will be posible to buy one-day tickets.
