BRUTALISM

Ireland's Fuckhammer is just like the instrument it is named after: straight and to the point. While this debut EP features only four tracks, there is enough music here to get a general idea of what the group offers. A mix of Death Metal, Heavy Metal, and Crust Punk is what the down and dirty album showcases, featuring dragging sludge tracks like "Abortion Addict" with distorted guitar, snarling pitches of vocals that sound more like they should be in the Black Metal vein but just don't quite have the screech, and every so often a section of thumping rhythm that can surely be appreciated. Other tracks like "Drone" are a bit faster and upbeat and definitely have some Heavy Metal influence within the music, but don't quite break the ground on the crushing scale of what one might expect from Death Metal when compared to names like Bolt Thrower. "Hillbillies" is a bit of a sardonic tune with the crass spoken word commentary on 'disfigured inbreds' but features some excellent rhythms that definitely will appeal to Death n' Roll fans. Overall, this isn't the most ferocious EP out there, but it certainly holds merit for those who like Crust Metal without too much distortion or noisecore in the background while invoking some sort of rhythm.
