Extricating lack of perception with Decrepancy

As long the Balkan countries have been reconstructed from years of tragedy, some bands have risen with the stronger ideas to involve in the international scene and destroy the wall of exhaustion same as this band Decrepancy who emerge from Serbia with the superior scale of musical capacity appeared into old- school death metal vigour. A promising band to confer a certainty to worldwide audiences within this or next decade and to open the curtain of glory. Andrija- the guitarist had given the proportional words about Decrepancy by the days of revitalization and some preparations as the flawless full-length album is tagged, here they come open-minded to you.

Long yearning to Balkan scene, especially for Yugoslavians just tell about the conditions and you guys Decrepancy, how are you doing?
We’re doing fine! The Balkan scene is alive and well!

It’s a meaningful value to know your name in musicality, would you mind to give a little description for Decrepancy after the small journey in scene from the birth in 2004 and in composing the stuffs? What’s the based story until you created the band?
…In the year 2004, under the name Anemia, the band was formed by the high school friends Igor Nikolic Gizma [Vocals] and Andrija Marovic [Guitars] and, to this day, they remain the main core of the band. Very soon after they formed the band, they were joined by their friend from class Zoran Sokolovic who has at that time already formed his band Infest. Without drummer, by using the drum machine they recorded their fist demo which included the song “forced to believe” that is still played by the band. As the ambition of the band was to play live, they started finding the drummer. For some time, band traveled to Belgrade to do rehearsals with Sacramental Blood drummer Ivan Petrovic Petro. At some point, the band got tired of traveling and decided that’s time to find drummer in Jagodina or some town near by. From that time, many drummers went through Decrepancy until the stabile line-up was formed to record “Paralyzed Will” album. That line-up stayed to this day except the drummer Dusan Milosevic was replaced by Nikola Milicevic…

Death Metal is absolutely your deepening art with some touches for the characterization, and it’s palatial where the form is into the old school austerity. Will you correct the view from the audiences regarding your way, will that thing become a dead price from Decrepancy to the genre?
Definitely, the old school death metal with some touches of technicality is our way of expression and, for surely, we will not change it.

After the promo 2010 that possibly as a beginning of the path, have you prepared the next releases? It’s so interesting to a full- length album as it’s on the info, what are the differences with the last songs in the promo, the materials and what is the essential thing you promise to the strength? You may explain the preparations: the label or something important about that release.
The promo songs will be on the album at the same level of production as they are on the promo cd. There will be no changes or re-recordings. However, we have the material for the second album and we hope to record it soon after our debut album is released. If everything works out right, our debut album should be released by the end of this year on French well known label Drakkar. At this very moment we are in the money collecting process.

Decrepancy music is tended with Suffocation, Morbid Angel, Severe Torture at least and collectively European Death Metal with the own originality and traditionalistic handling as it’s on the average, but truly what are the bands that inspire you to build the sound? It’s a grace to other bands except Death Metal bands?
Our music is inspired exclusively by the death metal bands like: Immolation, Suffocation, Gorguts, Atheist, Demilich, Luciferion, God Macabre and many others. Unlike modern death metal bands, we don’t tend do play extremely fast. Our goal is to use appropriate tempo and rhythms so the riffs can achieve its full expression. Immolation are masters of this philosophy and DM band that we most like.

Until now, probably some promotions are on the lane to represent Decrepancy, can you give a little narration especially in Europe until where you have ever played the shows? Won’t you go outside by this recent time for example Asia to promote the up-coming album?

By now, we’ve played only in the surrounding countries like Macedonia and Bosnia, but our goal is to play our music outside the Balkans wherever we are welcome.

Craniotomy from Slovakia, Tortarry from Czech or Convent from Poland are the fundamental Death Metal bands that have been raised in the universal level and have capability more as the talented bands with their old school expand to the aggressiveness. How do you view about those bands particularly for the stuffs? How about Decrepit Birth or Putridity?
To be honest, we haven’t listen to those bands you mentioned except Decrepit Birth. Anyway, it’s a good recommendation for us to listen to those bands and maybe after that we can tell you our opinions.

Some methods for the practice, how many do you go to the studio in a week or a month usually and how about the song writing? It’s so kind if you could bestow some advices for the beginners and reference.
Usually, we practice frequently before some important gigs. Regarding the song-writing process it’s very similar, as we suppose, as in many other bands. The lyrics and the riffs, previously created, are combined into a most suitable structure. The riffs are something that is product of intuition, but song structure demands rationality. The power of death metal music and its artistic domain lies exactly in playing with the song structure. Death metal is not rock music, its not repetitive and closed.

What do you do besides integrate in Decrepancy: what’s about your everyday lives? Is there a member playing in other band except in Infest? Anymore.
Some of us are studying, some have their every-day jobs or they are unemployed. Our drummer played in heavy-thrash metal band Graveyard [Now Still Graved], and our guitarist and bassist have some punk and black metal projects.

Nihilism, psychological disturbance and some matters such as existence and anti-religion often write to the themes for the lyrics by Death Metal bands. How about Decrepancy, as the writings are on the sight where it’s no where to correlate with that things? The true reality and your message to the audiences?
As many other death metal bands, we have a strong anti-religious attitude. Beside religion our lyrics deal with psychological disturbance, human existence, society, nature and cosmos. Our basic believes can be expressed in the sentences: [Nature is god – God is nature] and [Everything floats – Everything moves].

The improvement in scene is progressive and promising, wherein the new bands have risen and appear with their trade marks to many genres and they have accepted advance more than the past, what do you think about that thing? What have to be fixed and less from your opinion?
For us, it’s very simple! Death metal should be complex [narrative, unconventional] structure, harsh aesthetic. Nowadays, there are many death metal bands that sound synthetic or try to simplify the song structure and make it rock-like. In some cases, what is even worse, there are some bands that do the both. In our opinion, the bands that do those things are not the real death metal bands and they not deserve your attention.

Serbia has many stories from Yugoslavia until the country had separated become 3 countries now. Yea, bad telling about the regime from the past for the Bosnian Muslims but it’s not to believe that Serbians hate and still be in the hostility from the civil war. How about the relations between also with Croatians, and how regarding Death Metal scene there especially in Jagodina? There are a few displays such as Disdained, Sacramental Blood, also Obscured and it’s grateful to know more from you.
If you’re interested about “the real truth” about what happened in ex-Yu just watch the documentary film “The weight of chains” by Boris Malagurski. Personally, we don’t look Croatians and Bosnians through their religion or origin. We’ve played in Mostar with fantastic Bosnian death metal band Festival of Mutilation. Also, there is great death metal band from Bosnia named Toxic Death. Macedonia has the brutal Formless Terror, Scaffold is awesome DM band from Slovenia and from Serbia are worth mentioning Ashen Epitaph and Infest [originally from Jagodina, but now in Belgrade].

Until this time where you all are existed, what do you feel on bringing forward extreme music and being recognized to bring the brotherhood in universal link (knowing a few compilations have also made for Decrepancy)? The cultural problems sometimes make a boredom instead a recognition to us, but it’s not a stagnancy to speak and decide.
We may represent something negative only to those people who are ignorant or guided by prejudices. We are always open for discussions and friendship with people who have something to offer and say, no matter what’s the color of their skin, their religion or political attitude. What’s the point of killing people who obtained some ideology you are against? We think that if you kill the ideology with strength of your arguments you will free the people that obtained it.

Regarding the new album, what do you hope for Decrepancy and so forth the future to depend the consistence ? It’s to uselessness if the effort has now pay-back remembering the years.
As we mentioned in one of the earlier questions, we have the material for the second album and even a surprise for those who very honestly appreciate our music. However, our real problem is a lack of money and cultural surroundings in our town and society that is not very friendly to extreme form of art as death metal.

Without exaggerating the unkind words cause some works wait outside, just give the last commands and once again thank a lot for the time we will come back at the time call so real, keep deadly and fast the tunes!
Give the meaning to your life through some form of creation, because that’s all that is.
