Please give us a short introduction of yourself?
Cheers! I'm Tomi Mykkänen, the mastermind behind EVEMASTER. I make all the music and lyrics and play the guitar on live line-up.
Was it natural to develop the music? What was the reason for this?
It was very natural as i took almost 5 years between the albums so there must be some difference between the two.
Disappointed when others don't hear the different between the songs?
Well, not really. If they don't it's not my problem. One have to be deaf if he/she can't hear the difference.
What makes a classic metal song? What is your fav song?
For me it's hooking melodies or sheer aggressiveness that is in it's own league. I have so many fave songs! Damn! At the moment it could be King Diamond's ’Sleepless Nights’ or Slayer's ’Altar Of Sacrifice’.
I never heard of Tarot. Tell us something more about them?
They're one of the oldest true heavy metal bands from Finland. Their first album ’Spell Of Iron’ came out in 1986 and their newest album ’Suffer Our Pleasures’ came out last year. And still rocking! Hietala brothers formed the band and you might know Marco from such bands as Sinergy and Nightwish.
Do you think Finland can be taken serious as a metal country?
Well of course! We have lots of bands to take seriously! HAHA!
Why did you add some non metal things to the songs?
Did I? Hmm... I just put there what seems and sounds right to me. Anssi Kippo (ASTIA-dude) is responsible for synths so he came up with some of the analog sounds etc...
Interest in non metal musci?
Yeah, I listen to various types of music from old delta blues to black metal.
Are the other topics (non music) you like to talk about in a pub?
Yeah, sex and drugs... that's pretty much what I talk about. Oh yeah, and the lack of money is very good topic too.
For what can we wake you in the middle of the night?
To see the end of the world.
How was the winter in Finland? Is there any difference between summer and winter?
The winter hasn't been that cold this year. You've even been able to go out some days. Summer? What's that?
Do you collect snowflakes?
That's pretty rewarding hobby! You'll never get the same and as here in Finland the temperature is always below freezing it's very easy to have that kind of hobby.
Do you have a myth like the abominal snowman or Loch Ness?
We have Kalevala... And we do have arctic bears wandering around the cities here. You should beware if you don't want to get eaten alive either by the bears or pack of frenzied reindeers. We also have father christmasses gone mad lurking our streets and things can get extremely ugly if they get the scent of fresh blood.
What was your favorit lesson at school? Are you doing something with your education?
hmm... I've always liked mathematics... Weird and perverse but somehow it's always interested me. Yeah, I'm actually computer engineer and working with computer-related stuff so yeah, I'm doing something with my education.
Anything to say to your old fans? Ever count the amount of your fans?
We have at least 2 fans that I know of. That's better than none, right? For the old fans I'd like to say that you're not getting younger and keep up supporting Evemaster as we're getting older too!
