Blade of The Ripper are from Louisville, Kentucky and their full-length debut CD rips through your soul like a swig of Kentucky moonshine. As the name would imply Ripper are slightly on the violent and mysogenistic side of the force but if you can get past that, they play some good ol' fashion rock'n'roll that sound a bit like Slayer meets Danzig. The band was formerly called Brothers of Conquest and their frontman Adam Neal is formerly of bands The Hookers and Nashville Pussy. Some folks classify Blade Of The Ripper as NWOBHM, which is probably because the guitar sound and solos are structured in the style of Priest or Maiden but make no mistake, Ripper are a stoner rock band. They use a little satanic imagery for aesthetic purposes and dwell on violent themes for shock value as to get the listener's attention but upon listening to the lyrics one does not come away feeling they are obsessed with these themes. The sound of this band is rather like a stabbing motion so as to finish you off quick rather than let you agonize through a slow and boring sonic crucifixion. Either way, expect to be slain by these guys!
