The Russian band Beheaded Zombie (I love Zombie films) does something so pleasurable on this CD Life Line, it bounces right out the gate into rhythmically varied and heavy to light metal explosions. The first track, “Misanthrope,” bets its chips in the game and then slows down and allows the guitarist to riff along a moving line (almost as if one could imagine the notes written on the scale for the listener to see) while the drummer throws his sticks into cymbals in circles and then back to the straight hard line.
Something else the bands does well is to use accompanying sounds of bells and chants to add texture to the brutality. Some of these sounds, especially right before “Madness,” could as well be from John Carpenter films. Another fine point in the band’s favor. They do this again in front of “Payoff” to an even better effect. I think Halloween, I think The Omen, I think The Prince of Darkness. All good for me. This is a very short review, but the band’s sounds are long.
