New Track || White Wizzard- ‘Strike the Iron’ Streaming

16 hours 25 min ago

Staggered-by-region release dates make no fucking sense. Still White Wizzard’s new album, The Devil’s Cut, will be released on June 3 in Europe and weeks later on June 25 in North America. Because, you know, the Internet, which created a global economy, isn’t a thing and everyone will wait patiently for the staggered release, I’m sure of it.

Below you can hit play on a Youtube video to hear a new track from the album, Strike With Iron, but I’d like everyone to ahere to the following staggered-by-region viewing restrictions:

-If you live in North America you may watch the video immediately.

-Those in Europe please wait 25 min.

-Readers in Central and South America: you may listen tomorrow.

-Any Asia continent readers must listen yesterday, Friday, or after sundown in Xuancheng.

-The video will be made available for any and all regions I’ve not mentioned thus far as soon as you finish reading this sentence.

Enjoy.

Sinister Realm- ‘World of Evil’ Music Video

17 hours 5 min ago

US based heavy doom Sinister Realm released the following music video for the title track of their forthcoming third full-length, World of Evil.

Summing up what you’ll see here: a brilliant, beacon of hope for the heavy metal genre with not much of a budget for a video. If visuals can easily turn you off to a band, maybe press play and go work in another tab until the song's done. Then come back and let us and everybody else know what you thought.

Enjoy!

World of Evil will be released on July 21, 2013 though Shadow Kingdom Records.

Heavy Metal Albums Every Fan Should Own || #2: Metallica- Ride The Lightning

May 21, 2013 - 20:04

A look through Metallica’s illustrious (and at times not so) career and there is one album among many that we can all agree upon: Ride The Lightning.

One of only a handful of sophomore albums not to fall to the old “sophomore slump” adage, Ride The Lightning was released in 1984 on the indie label Megaforce. Certified gold in 1987 and then 6x(!!!) platinum in 2012 despite never cracking the top 100 in the US. This was the record that put Metallica on the map if for anyone who may have ignored or overlooked their debut, Kill ‘Em All. This is truly a great record. This is a record everyone that would call him or herself a heavy metal fan should own and put on regular rotation.

Next time on Heavy Metal Albums Every Fan Should Own…we venture across the ocean to a cold, white north.

As HMAEFSO is an ongoing column, feel free to let us know what albums you’d like to see on the list and why in the comments section below.

Metal Can Look Good Too || Psycroptic- Symbols of Failure

May 17, 2013 - 21:30

Abbygunn suggested the artwork to me for this week’s segment, and while neither her nor I like Psycroptic any more than two people who’ve only listened to them once, there’s no denying that their album art is well done.  Not just the above picture either.  As I flipped through their catalogue, cover after cover caught my eye and I quickly realized that this Australian band was worthy a spot on our site – or at least their album covers do.  The above cover is taken from their 2006 album ‘Symbols of Failure’, art duties performed by Par Olofsson.

Olofsson is a Swedish artist that has worked all over in the heavy metal community, designing cover art and merchandise for bands such as Exodus, Immortal, The Faceless, Skyfire and too many others to mention here.  Chances are you’ve stumbled upon an album featuring his work at one time or another, and now the next time you do, you can impress your friends with your superior knowledge of such things.

Another notable album cover from Psycroptic comes from their most recent effort ‘(Ob)Servant’, released in 2008 with art duties preformed by yet another legendary illustrator, Raymond Swanland.  Swanland has been featured on numerous metal albums as well as illustrating comic books, Magic: The Gathering cards and working on the video game Oddworld. You can see his contribution to the band after the jump.

Say what you will about the band, personally not my cup of tea, but talented nonetheless, and I think we can all agree their album covers deserve a special place in the annals of great metal art.
